After what feels like forever being stuck indoors all winter, February half term brings a chance to get out of the house with the kids to enjoy some time together as a family.

Essex has a good selection of activities happening around the county this February half term and this post will share all of the information you need.

February Half term activities in essex

February half term varies around the country, with some counties taking it 12th – 16th February and others 19th – 23rd February. Hopefully you will find an activity to suit you.

Singing Princesses at Old MacDonald’s Farm 

Dates: 17th – 25th February 2024.

Have a magical day out at Old MacDonald’s Farm and meet the Singing Princesses and some fiery dragons too. Characters vary day to day so check the website for more info.

Lee Valley Farm

Dates: 12th – 25th February 2024.

Get up close and personal with Meerkats Pygmy Zebus, Goats, Pigs, Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Ferrets, and Creepy Crawlies with the Lee Valley Farm Half-term Family Frolic discounted entry fee.

There’s also mini golf, adventure play, a huge bouncy pillow and Swan & Tea Cup rides to enjoy.

Marsh Farm

Dates: 12th – 25th February 2024.

There are llamas, goats, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, and more at Marsh Farm. So take advantage of their Half-term Family Frolic discounted entry fee and have a great day out.

There’s also mini golf, a soft play frame, hightop adventure play, and tractor rides to enjoy too.

Zooper Heroes at Colchester Zoo

Dates: 17th – 25th February 2024.

From the Animal Care Team who care for the animals to researchers, educators and record keepers, come and find out about the Zooper Heroes at Colchester Zoo.

Activities include:

World on Your Windowsill at Hyde Hall

Dates: 17th – 25th February 2024.

Creative craft activities, planting herby characters, and an interactive storytelling walk. Get your face painted and enjoy the seasonal garden trail at Hyde Hall.

Hylands Open Estate Day

Date: Sunday 18th February 2024

Hylands House opens its doors to reveal the secrets behind its history. With craft activities, storytelling sessions, live music, carriage rides and delicious food, there is lots to enjoy for families.

East Anglian Railway Museum

Dates: 18th, 21st & 24th February 2024.

With a Steam Day on the 18th and Diesel Days on the 21st and 24th, head on down to the East Anglian Railway Museum for a great day out.

Visit the Museum and have unlimited rides along the track, either by steam or diesel train depending on the day of your visit.

Knight School at Hedingham Castle

Dates: 21st – 23rd February 2024

Using padded weapons, learn how to fight like a medieval knight in a 1 hour session with members of Knight’s Tower Medieval Combat School at Hedingham Castle.

Suitable for children aged 6+ as well as adults, all abilities welcome.

Half Term Havoc at The Museum of Power

Dates: 21st – 25th February 2024

Take a trip to the Museum of Power to take part in stone painting, make a paper flower, make a puppet, join in a springtime hunt, do experiments, complete puzzles and more!

The Miniature Railway will be running and ‘Astaria’ model village will be open Thursday 22nd February only.

Kids for a Quid at Epping Ongar Railway

Dates: 14, 15, 17, 18, 21, 22, 24 and 25 February 2024

Keep the kids entertained on a steam train ride with the Epping Ongar Railway tickets at £1 each for children this half term. 

Ride both steam and diesel trains as well as a traditional London bus. Visit the historic town of Ongar, watch the trains go by, grab a bite to eat – lots to do for families.
